Anal attackers' sentences cut on sexual technicality
Shen Pao-ni, a former national team swimmer, on Tuesday had her jail sentence reduced from nine years to 14 months by the Taiwan High Court, which ruled that Shen did not commit a sexual offense when she sodomized a man with a stick.
Along with two men, Seng seriously beat the victim and inserted a stick in the victim's anus.
Shen was convicted and received a nine-year sentence from the Taipei District Court.
Taiwan High Court spokesman Wen Yao-yuan said that while the district court ruled that Shen had committed a sex crime, the high court decided she had committed a crime against personal liberty causing bodily harm, which carries a lighter sentence.
Wen said the defendants did not commit sex crimes because their act did not cause sexual desire.
Two other defendants were sentenced to reduced terms of 13 months and 12 months in jail.
The high court on Tuesday also released Shen on bail after announcing the sentence.
The defendants and prosecutors have 10 days to decide to bring the case to the Supreme Court.
Shen, who represented the nation at the Olympic Games and Asia Games in the 1970s and 1980s, holds seven national records in swimming.
In 2003 Shen, angry at the victim's treatment of her daughter, invited him to a hotel room, where Shen and the two men forced the victim to take off his clothes and took photographs.
The three also beat the victim, hitting his head on the floor and walls, and inserted a stick into his anus three times.

In a further twist, sources close to the family have criticized authorities because Mr Vernon's mother works at a centre providing sexual assault counseling.

TV presenter and singer Kelly Osbourne’s cousin Terry Longden is the mystery family member who is HIV-positive. The 43-year-old, who starred in British reality show The Salon, was standing in the wings when Kelly went on stage at a charity benefit last week and told the audience she had a relative with the condition. He says, “I told her to say whatever she wanted because it might help someone in a similar situation, but I didn’t expect her to cry. I felt quite guilty. She gave me a big hug when she came off.”

The 45-year-old tried to downplay his disappointment telling American publication Us Weekly, "It's fine. It happens. It's OK." Kelly Osbourne says family member has HIV
Kelly Osbourne has revealed that one of her family members is HIV positive, according to UK media reports on Tuesday.
Osbourne found fame with The Osbournes, a reality show featuring life with her father Ozzy - frontman of heavy metal band Black Sabbath - mother Sharon and brother Jack.
The 22-year-old told an audience at an HIV benefit concert in London on Monday night that the cause was close to her heart because a member of her family had been diagnosed with the virus.

Campbell Pleads Guilty To Phone Assault
Naomi Campbell pleaded guilty yesterday to assaulting her former maid with a mobile phone during an argument over a pair of missing jeans. Maid Ana Scolavino was treated for a head injury following the incident in the supermodel's Manhattan, New York City home last March. Campbell, 36, told Manhattan Criminal Court, "I threw a cell phone in the apartment. The cell phone hit Ana. This was an accident because I did not intend to hit her." Following her guilty plea, Campbell was ordered to pay Scolavino's medical expenses, complete five days of community service and attend an anger management class.

Pamela Anderson Takes Shot at Ex Kid Rock
Pamela Anderson has launched a thinly disguised attack on her estranged husband Kid Rock, apparently branding him self-obsessed and "childish". The former Baywatch star was furious to learn Rock tried to get physical with her other ex Tommy Lee on New Year's Eve in Las Vegas after being taunted by the wild rocker over his split from Anderson. Dita Von Teese files for divorce from Marilyn Manson
Dita Von Teese has filed for a divorce from rocker husband Marilyn Manson, citing irreconcilable differences and will hand over the divorce papers to him in a studio, where he is recording his next album.
The stunning stripper had filed for the split before Christmas and had tried to communicate to her husband that she was filing for a divorce.
But, he did not have the time and did not even realize that she has moved out of the house.
"She loved him so much, but he has too many demons. He can't even communicate with her at this point. She tried to tell him she was divorcing him, but she can't even get him on the phone. She moved out of the house and he hasn't even noticed," New York Post quoted a source, a saying.
Apparently, Teese tried to make the one-year-old marriage work though Manson had started drinking heavily in 2006.
It's uncertain yet whether Von Teese has planned to ask for custody of the couple's two cats, Lily and Aleister, and dachshunds, Greta and Eva.
Manson and Von Teese tied the knot in December 2005 after a seven-year courtship.

However during the appearances, he was peppered with questions about his recent feud with O'Donnell that began last month when Trump announced Miss USA Tara Connor would keep her title, which was in jeopardy due to underage drinking. As part of her agreement with Trump, Connor is currently attending an in-patient substance abuse rehabilitation center. O'Donnell said Trump, who is twice divorced, had no right to be "the moral compass for 20-year-olds in America," sparking a string of nasty media exchanges between the pair.

The 'Toxic' singer has finally got back in shape following the birth of her second son, Jayden James, and is so proud of her figure she wants it "immortalized" in a painting.
A source told Britain's More magazine: "Britney's been getting in better and better shape since she split with Kevin and wants her body immortalised in a portrait.
"She loves the film 'Titanic', especially the scene where Kate Winslet's character Rose gets painted in the nude. She wants it tastefully done, though, and is looking for the right artist to do it."
Britney - mother to one-year-old Sean Preston and four-month-old Jayden James - filed for divorce from husband Kevin Federline in November.
Since separating from Kevin, Britney, 25, has been spotted out partying on several occasions showing off her body in a variety of skimpy outfits.
